HANUMAN CHALISA: story and facts

Lord Hanuman was a devotee of Lord Rama and reincarnation of Lord Shiva himself. Lord Hanuman is also known for his qualities such as humbleness, loyalty and selflessness. It is said that he has infinite powers.

Hanuman Chalisa was composed by Goswami Tulsidas Ji in praise of Lord Hanuman in 15 century. It is written in Awadhi (a language similar to Hindi and whose origin is from Sanskrit). He was a reformer and a philosopher.

Once he was captured by the third Mughal Emperor Jalaluddin Muhammad Akbar at the age of 63, in A.D. 1560. He spend 40 days there. An army of giant monkeys descended upon Fatehpur Sikri. An old Hafiz told Akbar that this was the miracle of the Hindu fakir. Akbar immediately fell at the feet of Tulsi Das, apologised and freed him. Tulsi Das stopped the menace of monkeys and told Akbar to leave the place.

Hanuman Chalisa has a calming effect. It is known to cure diseases, insanity, etc. If chanted by someone in trouble or for someone in trouble, it is said that the problem goes away.

      लील्यो ताहि मधुर फल जानू ||"

"|| yug sahastra yojan par bhanu,

    leeyo taahi madhur phal jaanu ||"

1 mile = 1.6 kms

96000000 miles = 153600000 kms

Meaning of the shloka: "Going 153600000 kms away, you tried to eat the Sun thinking it as a sweet fruit."

2. We know that Hanuman Ji could change his size according to his need, according to the ancient stories and the Ramayana, but exactly how much? 

Well, it is described in Ramdas Swami Ji's Maruti Shloka.

"|| sukshma roop dhari siyahi dikhava,

     bikat roop dhari lank jarava ||"

"|| bheem roop dhari asur sanhare

     Ramchandra ke kaaj savare||"

Sukshma roop - small size

Bheem roop - large size
